PM to speak at Republican dinner

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will help the Australian Republican Movement (ARM) celebrate its 25th anniversary at a gala dinner in Sydney on the 17th of December.

The dinner will recognise the many men and women who have served the ARM with distinction since its founding in 1991. Chief among them is the Prime Minister; a founding member, former chair, and life member of the Movement.

ARM National Chair Peter FitzSimons expressed his delight that the Prime Minister would be both attending and speaking at the dinner.

“We are absolutely thrilled that the Prime Minister has agreed to join us for our 25th anniversary commemoration”, said FitzSimons.

“It is an occasion to honour those who’ve got us to this point, and the PM is, of course, at the forefront of our founding fathers and mothers.

“The dinner is also a moment for the ARM to outline its vision for the future. A vision in which Australia takes the lead and completes the journey to full and final independence" concluded FitzSimons.

The ARM has no intention of celebrating its 30th anniversary. Instead, the Movement is planning the transition to an Australian head of state within the next five years.

The ARM’s 25th anniversary gala dinner will be held at the Great Hall, University of Sydney on Saturday 17th December.
