Who are we?
We’re Australians advocating for an Australian republic with an Australian as our Head of State.
We believe that the Australian people are best served by a local who champions our needs and interests.
We’re committed to strengthening our democracy and celebrating who we are as a nation.
As a grassroots, Member-driven body, the Australian people are at the heart of our movement.
Our Members are in neighbourhoods, towns and cities all over Australia. Our leaders are elected to steer the organisation on their behalf. They’re all volunteers who are passionate about an Australian republic.
Australians have the power to decide how we’re governed and by whom. We’re the conversation-starter, facilitator and campaigner. Our work can’t happen without you.
Our leadership
The National Committee is our Board of Directors. It has 15 Directors, including Executive Directors, General Directors and State and Territory Branch Convenors, ensuring we have a nationally representative group running our organisation.
The Executive is drawn from the National Committee and functions to oversee the day-to-day management of the ARM. The Executive includes the two Co-Chairs, Vice Chair, Treasurer/Secretary and three General Executive Directors.
Directors on the National Committee serve two year terms, while the Executive is elected annually.
We have branches in every state and territory. These branches elect a Branch Council from within their membership with up to 12 representatives, including Youth Convenors in every state/territory. Councils are elected for two-year terms. Branches can appoint a Convenor who also sits on the National Committee. Each Branch Council has a Deputy Convenor, Secretary, Youth Convenor and Forums Coordinator as officeholders.
We also have a nationwide Women’s Network.
Learn about what we’re doing
Australia has reached a historic moment with high public support for an Australian Head of State. The Australian Republic Movement’s National Committee is committed to mobilising the ARM to capitalise on this public mindset and to bring about a change which strengthens our democracy through an Australian republic.
