Vale Susan Ryan AO

The Australian Republic Movement (ARM) has been saddened to learn of the passing of Hon. Susan Ryan AO.

Susan was a Life Member of the ARM, and former deputy national chairperson of the ARM between 2000 and 2003.

Susan was a foundation member of the Republican Advisory Committee established in 1993 by Paul Keating and chaired by Malcolm Turnbull, and played an important role in bringing about the 1999 referendum.

She continued her enormous contribution to the ARM during the difficult days following that referendum, consistent with her lifelong values of civic service, including delivering the ‘toast to an Australian republic’ at the Australian Republic Movement’s Renewed Future dinner last November at Old Parliament House.

“In my time as Chair of the ARM she has turned up at every function, supported every clarion call and been the epitome of loyal support to the republican cause. Vale, Susan Ryan” said Peter FitzSimons, Chair of the Australian Republic Movement.
