Australia is supposed to be a mature nation, it being over 100 years since our federation. Quite a few nations have severed their official ties with Great Britain, for example India and Jamaica and many others. We should do the same, as we are old enough to stand on our own two feet.

I believe an Australian should be head of state for Australia and not a foreign monarch. Although my ancestors come from Britain, I feel no connection or pride to the British or their monarchy. I am an Australian, and proud, and Australia should be a free and independent nation.
Donald May
I joined the Republic Movement because we deserve a bold, fair, and future-facing nation. A republic is more than symbolic—it’s our chance to enshrine women’s rights, Indigenous sovereignty, environmental justice, and economic and social rights in our Constitution. I join with Young Australians who are ready for this kind of leadership.

My heritage is firmly English, Irish and Scottish, convicts and free settlers alike. I am a 7th generation Australian, born on Boonwurrung country. I feel like an Aussie, I talk like an Aussie, and I sing like an Aussie. It's time to unite our country, once and for all and cast off the shackles of the British Empire.

I am baffled why Australia still remains a constitutional monarchy of another country. In the 25 years since the last referendum we and the world have moved on. It is time to become a republic.
James Middleweek
Australia has evolved into a mature multicultural society that has moved a long, long way from its British colonial origins. It is absurd therefore that our Head of State should be an hereditary monarch of what is now a foreign country. The distinctive - and largely successful - Australian Way should be enshrined in a move to full constitutional independence.

The current system does not reflect modern Australia and the independent sovereign nation Australia continues to become. We need a Head of State that reflects the democratic values every citizen is grateful to live and participate in. If there was a similar event to the 1975 Australian constitutional crisis, let's have a system where it's resolved on our home soil, not by a foreign monarch.
