This webinar unpacks the Australian Choice Model, the framework developed by the Australian Republic Movement to deliver a clear, direct-election pathway to an Australian republic. Learn more about what the model is and how it was shaped through lessons from the 1999 referendum, national polling and a drafting process with input from 1,500 individuals and organisations across the country.
ARM Co-Chair Nathan Hansford moderates a panel featuring Sandy Biar, former ARM CEO and key architect of the Choice Model, Dr Ben Jones, historian, former ARM Board member and author of This Time: Australia’s Republican Past and Future, and Deborah Crossing, life member, former South Australian Branch Convenor, and member of the ARM Women’s Network.
2025 marks 50 years since Australia’s most significant constitutional crisis: the dismissal of the Whitlam Government. The event revealed significant weaknesses and flaws in the Australian Constitution and the conventions by which it operates, as well as new faultlines in our relationship with the monarchy—much of which have yet to be revealed to the Australian public.
Former ARM National Committee Member Professor Jenny Hocking joins ARM Co-Chair Esther Anatolitis to discuss what this year’s milestone means for the future Australian republic.

Chereda Grannum, a member of the Republican Status Transition Advisory Committee, joins ARM Youth Convenor Yasmin Poole to share the behind-the-scenes story of Barbados’ journey and what Australia can learn.
