National Committee Elections
The Australian Republic Movement has announced it will be holding elections for its National Committee – ARM’s Board of Directors.
National Director and CEO Isaac Jeffrey said: “The Australian Republic Movement is a champion of democracy. We live by that core value by electing our National Committee. Reflecting ARM’s membership, our directors come together to promote a republic from all walks of life, backgrounds and ideologies, including members from all sides of politics. The Committee serves as ARM’s Board of Directors and helps steer the organisation’s strategy, risk, finances and governance.
“This year’s election will be conducted in coming weeks with nominations opening on 31 May and closing 14 June. Candidates will have an opportunity to address members and provide a pitch on how they can help drive ARM to a successful Yes campaign for an Aussie republic.
“Candidates must be members of ARM, have a passion for an Aussie republic and should have board or committee experience as well as fundraising, campaign and/or communications experience. Directors elected will serve a two-year term.
“Our National Executive is drawn from the National Committee and includes our Co-Chairs, Vice Chair, Treasurer/Company Secretary and three Executive Directors. They serve a one-year term. These positions will be elected once the National Committee is confirmed with a public announcement by early July.
“Co-Chair Nova Peris has recently stepped down from her role and Criag Foster has indicated he will not renominate after successful terms promoting the republic. Their passionate lifelong advocacy has helped position the ARM for a successful referendum in the very near future. We thank them for their efforts and ongoing support for an Australian Head of State, and look forward to their future involvement in the campaign.
“This is an exciting time for the ARM. The King is coming to visit, the first time in over a decade a sitting Monarch of Australia has visited – that’s our Head of State who hasn’t visited in over 10 years. This event will shine a tremendous light on the role of the monarchy and the question of whether the British Royals truly represent a modern Australian democracy. It will kickstart the campaign and put us on the road to a republic.
